The goal of this project was to create an illustration that depicted a hurricane scenario, focusing on the type of home damage a typical homeowner might experience. Project stakeholders specifically wanted to highlight wind damage to the roof and the surrounding landscape, while conveying a sense
of urgency.
The design process began with a few pencil sketches. To emphasize urgency, I opted for a storm-blown newscaster concept. The dark, swirling gray clouds, along with a storm radar and news headlines, reinforced the hurricane theme. Exaggerated roof tiles and wind-blown plants were added to further tell the story of destruction.
After finalizing the concept, I imported the sketches into Adobe Illustrator and recreated them as vector graphics. The illustration was organized with named layers and shapes, allowing for future animation as an SVG. Additionally, I created alternate simplified versions of the graphic, using a limited color palette. These versions were designed to be easily customizable, enabling quick adjustments to match partner brand guidelines.
