Tasked with drawing a lawn ornament,
I immediately thought of a flamingo or a gnome, so why not combine them? Meet the trusty gnome warrior atop his loyal flamingo steed, bravely defending his turf!
For the challenge, which awarded bonus points for showing process work, I documented each step. I started with a quick pencil sketch, followed by using a thick Sharpie to block out the basics, focusing on shapes rather than details. Next, I refined the piece by adding details and cleaning up with a pink pearl eraser. I then brought it to life with Tombow pens for vibrant color. Finally, I scanned the drawing and fine-tuned the colors in Photoshop.
After the challenge, I transformed this into an Illustrator tutorial for junior teammates. Using an image trace, I simplified the fills and redrew the outlines on separate layers. To complete the piece, I added a simple background for a polished finish.
